It’s all in the hips.

by Alissa Paquette in Fitness

There’s no denying the hips are powerful. As the body’s largest joint the hip has the ability to perform 6 types of movement, 21 different muscles influence it, and both hips combined support all of our body weight. It is because of the hips we can walk, sprint, jump, and do the Macarena (aaaahhhhright)! It is also because of the hips we can sit down after a long day out and let out a sigh of relief. My definition of ‘a healthy body’ is simply one that moves often, and this scope of thought can be applied to our individual…

Bodies of Energy

by Alissa Paquette in Fitness, Teacher Feature, Workshops, Yoga

The human body is full of potential. Figuratively, we can aspire to be whoever we want if we have clear direction, focus, and the drive to get from A to Z; physically, we are made up of energetic matter! We are tiny cells vibrating at various speeds to form us into our unique expression of energy, our bodies. The Savory to your Sweet

by Alissa Paquette in Products we love, Recipes

Nicci’s recent post about overnight oats (YUM!) has had me drooling! With hot, sunny days in Portland lately my body craves cool, refreshing fruits; and overnight oats are such a simple (and adorable) way to eat a balanced meal in the morning. Though I love fruit, typically my belly prefers warm foods with savory flavors in the morning – so I often eat my oats covered with lots of veggies, a dash of sea salt, yeast flakes, and a great heap of avocado (’cause put that on everything). I wanted to share my comforting morning oats recipe as another option for all the savory eaters…

Don’t be a Square…

by Alissa Paquette in Fitness, Teacher Feature, Yoga

BE A TRIANGLE! Being asked “What is your favorite yoga pose?” holds the same weight as asking me what’s my favorite pizza topping – because it’s all yoga, and pizza (mushrooms definitely win – winkwink). Now that that’s cleared up, I do have a pose that calls to me most and allows me to feel a a deep stretch that I can trace from rooted heel to floating fingers – and that is Utthita Trikonasana | Extended Triangle pose. I feel this pose working every time I enter it and I particularly enjoy how the stretch curls up my outer…

Flowing without Focus

by Alissa Paquette in Fitness, Teacher Feature, Yoga

I was fortunate to have yoga lessons instead of the typical gym class games in high school, and with my dancing background I was more than certain it would be a breeze.”Piece of cake!” I remember thinking as I walked into my first yoga class in eleventh grade, “I’m flexible, so I’ve got this.” I remember laying my mat down on the cold cafeteria floor and noticing the teacher as she walked in. She was glowing (or the sun was shining on her blonde hair and white outfit through the window)! I was positive she was an angel, and I was instantly…
