Yoga and the Three Bears

by Nicci Randall in Fitness, Teacher Feature, Yoga

Yoga.by.Nic

Yoga as an ancient form and as an ever evolving way of life is so enthralling to me as a teacher and practioner, but I can’t say that my initial exposures to yoga left me feeling this way. Yoga is different for every individual. It’s a personal practice with ourselves in our bodies and our minds. That being said, no one can tell you how yoga makes you feel. My first yoga class was a guided meditation at a small yoga studio in the town I went to college. I didn’t know what to expect, but I was open to…

Zao Body Yoga

Flex & Flow opened just 3 weeks ago and already you can feel the buzz of a real community growing and forming. It’s such a cheesy word, especially when applied to yoga: “community.” Aw. How cute. How nice.  I picture lots of granola and overly soft hugs, too-long eye gazes and smiley, affected whisper voices sharing how the universe felt like it was speaking directly to them. (Side note 1: We do offer granola bars along with kombucha and tea and coffee and peanut butter snacks! Yum.) (Side note 2: If you haven’t watched Amy Schumer’s vid on receiving guidance from the Universe,…

I’m Just Here for Savasana

by Jessie Bohner in Fitness, Teacher Feature, Yoga

To be honest, I can’t recall my very first yoga class. It was most likely in a gym setting, LA Fitness or the like, and it could have been a fusion of yoga and pilates. I do however remember my first yoga class at a yoga specific studio. It was during my last year in college and at that time I had been looking to find a new way to stay in shape, keep moving and become healthier. So, during a break home from school, I dragged my Mom with me to our only yoga studio in town. We took…

An Ode to Elderly Yogis

by Jade Szczepanski in Fitness, Teacher Feature, Yoga

No really: Shout out to all of the sensational, sun saluting, salt n pepper senior yogis. You inspire me. Let me explain. A studio not far from my college campus was advertising a 30 days for 30 dollars deal and I heard how yoga was supposed to be good for you so I signed up on a whim. I unassumingly walked into my first hot yoga class and placed my mat in what seemed like a safe place; far enough from the front to avoid any attention and also far enough from the heater to avoid what I was almost…

Flowing without Focus

by Alissa Paquette in Fitness, Teacher Feature, Yoga

I was fortunate to have yoga lessons instead of the typical gym class games in high school, and with my dancing background I was more than certain it would be a breeze.”Piece of cake!” I remember thinking as I walked into my first yoga class in eleventh grade, “I’m flexible, so I’ve got this.” I remember laying my mat down on the cold cafeteria floor and noticing the teacher as she walked in. She was glowing (or the sun was shining on her blonde hair and white outfit through the window)! I was positive she was an angel, and I was instantly…
